goin’ global: the oldest postcard i’ve ever found

i have a postcard obsession. i collect all kinds – old ones, new ones, weird ones, art ones, nudie ones, promotional ones. like a deltiologist, i am lured by their cultural significance constantly shifting through the centuries. take the italian avant-gardists of the 1920s, for example. frustrated with the stuffy conformism of galleries and museums, they desseminated their non-conformist ethos by printing their artwork on postcards and flooding the streets of paris with them. postcards both necessitate rapid proliferation of word/image, and also retrospecitvely offer us a glimpse into our cultural past. like a looking glass, we see change through time.

this scottish postcard is from 1831!

this is a real photograph
