the quechua are the largest indigenous group in peru. these stencils of quechua peasants have popped up all over lima’s miraflores district – the swanky/tourist/white neighbourhood… where few quechua can afford to exist.

they serve as a reminder of the area’s most ancient population, who are also descendants of the mighty inca empire. while traveling in peru, i couldn’t help but note how both time + progress (ie $$$) have evaded the quechua peoples. good or bad?

well, i guess it’s complicated. but in those moments upon the hill, its grass, under the moon, its light, i certainly wish that time + progress had evaded me. easy to say? probably.
